REALTORS® Share “Warmth That Lasts” Across the Fraser Valley
As winter needs continue to rise across the Fraser Valley, REALTORS® once again stepped forward to support their communities through the annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive. Now in its 31st year, the initiative brought together Fraser Valley Real Estate Board members, clients, and community partners to collect essential winter items for individuals and families facing cold-weather vulnerability. This year’s drive resulted in more than 900 bags of blankets, coats, and warm clothing, providing direct support to an estimated 9,000 people throughout the region.
The impact of the Blanket Drive is felt most strongly at the community level. More than 70 volunteers and 20 local charities participated, including Abbotsford’s Cyrus Centre youth shelter. According to Cyrus Centre Director Adam Beardwood, the need for warm clothing has grown significantly in recent years, and donations from the drive meet immediate and essential needs. These contributions help charities extend care, offer compassion, and provide dignity to those relying on community support during the coldest months of the year.
The importance of initiatives like the Blanket Drive has increased alongside a rise in cold-related health risks. Data from the Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention Program shows hospitalizations due to extreme cold have more than doubled over the past decade, while cold-related deaths have also increased. This growing vulnerability underscores the critical role REALTORS® and community partners play in responding to urgent, real-world needs beyond housing alone.
This year’s theme, “Warmth That Lasts,” reflected more than physical comfort. Each donated item represented connection, empathy, and a reminder that people are not facing hardship alone. FVREB Chair Tore Jacobsen highlighted the dedication shown by REALTORS® across the Fraser Valley, noting that in a time of rising costs and increased pressure on families, the generosity and service of members has never been more important.
At Royal LePage Wolstencroft, community involvement remains a core value. Supporting initiatives like the REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive is part of an ongoing commitment to serve, support, and strengthen the neighbourhoods where we live and work. We extend sincere thanks to every donor, volunteer, and organization who helped make this year’s drive a success and ensured that warmth, care, and compassion reached those who needed it most.
